BLOGGER POWR - Amanda Rose

Friday, 17 March 2017
What time is it? GRLPOWR time. It's another BLOGGER POWR interview, today with the lovely Amanda from LDNROSE - lets go!

QUESTIONS
Blogging and me:

  • Hello! How would you describe your blog in a few words? A lifestyle blog about living and working in London. I mainly blog about work and career tips as well as travel.
  • Which blogpost that you have uploaded is your favourite? It would have to be one of my interview posts from last year’s Internationational Women’s Day. I did a series on inspiring women and interviewed Jacqueline Fernandez a female CEO who set up her own non-profit organisation; What You Do Matters. I also interviewed Laurél Alleyne, a producer who works in the TV industry. Both explored topics around gender diversity and feminism and I could really relate to issues addressed in both, as I’m sure many young women can.
  • How long have you been blogging?  Almost 2 years, but I started a blog a few years back and didn’t really put that much time into it. So I’ve started again this time around hoping to keep it up for good now.
  • What's your favourite part of blogging?  The friends you’ll make – cheesy I know! It really is being a part of a community which I love. I think working in PR and having to work with bloggers professionally on behalf of clients is interesting as I see both sides. And it’s true that the perception is some can start blogging for the pure purpose of getting money or free stuff. But for the most part, it’s just someone who wants an outlet to share the things they like, get to know like-minded people and hopefully help a few along the way. That’s why I love the blogging community, it’s very rare to find people that aren’t willing to talk or be friends with you.
  • What is your blogging method? (E.g do you take photos before writing up your post?)  I would say a mixture of both. Some days I’ll dedicate to just taking a load of images for my ‘stock’ images, so for things like insta, or posting as header images. But for an actual post I tend to mix it up depending on what I need. Sometimes I might need to do more research and speak to a few people and write it up before realising what images I’ll need. Other days if it’s around a specific product I’ll take the photos and then write the post. I find you have to be flexible in that way.
  • What advice do you give to new bloggers to stand out in the crowd?  Find your niche. I think it’s easy to want to just blog about everything you fancy, but that’s not going to make you stand out. You need to find something you are really passionate about or can speak a lot about so that people will come back to read more. I would describe my blog as a lifestyle blog but my niche is work and career tips. I didn’t just want to write about general topics, but wanted to try and give advice or help where I can.
  • What are your favourite blog posts to create? I would say interview ones. I always love speaking with other people and getting their insight on a topic. It’s also where I can learn new things and hopefully be a valuable outlet for those I’m interviewing. It’s also interesting to find out that there are a lot of similar views on topics that I can then discuss with like-minded people and also eventually create a nice interesting piece on.

About me:
  • How would you describe yourself in 3 words? A dreamer, moody and ambitious

  • What is your favourite thing to do to relax ? Nothing like opening a bottle of wine and watching the latest episodes of pretty much anything on Netflix.
  • Name 3 things you couldn't live without! My phone, my dog and my boyfriend

  • Do you have any bad habits ? I hate to admit it but I’m a smoker…

  • What has been your proudest moment so far?  I would hope that I have yet to achieve bigger things to be proud of, but in terms of proudest moment so far, it would be graduating from university. I’ve never seen my mum so proud of me except for that moment when I went to accept my diploma at my graduation ceremony. Education is very important to my parents and they always encouraged me to study whatever I wanted. So getting my degree would have to top my list so far as I know that it made them proud.

  • What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to travel and I cover my travel experiences on my blog too. But I also like exploring London. So I try to try new things and visit new places when I can. There’s been a few cool pop-ups in the last few years so I always try and keep an eye out for those when they happen.
  • What are your future aspirations in life? One day I’d like to start my own business. I’m not sure exactly what yet, but I know I want to be my own boss.

  • Name three things that never fail to make you smile. Funny animal videos, seeing friends and remembering funny memories.

  • Confession time! What is your most embarrassing moment? I once ran to get a train and slipped on the platform! The doors were closing just as I was falling to the ground. Like full on ‘feel like you’re in slow motion’ kind of drop. I was the only one on the platform at the time so everyone in the carriage saw me drop. The driver must have felt sorry for me because he opened the doors again to let me get on.
Thanks for helping us interview as many bloggers as we can and find so many different opinions - no person has the same answer! Again, if you're interested in being involved in the BLOGGER POWR series or posting a guest post on this blog drop us a DM on twitter @GRLPOWRCHAT

BLOGGER POWR - Chelsea H

Sunday, 5 March 2017
It's interview time again! Today I'm talking to the lovely Chelsea from thinkfeelstrong, enjoy!

Blogging and me:
  • How would you describe your blog in a few words ?
I would say that my blog is "something for everyone". I write about topics that can apply to a good majority of people's lives I believe.
  • Which blogpost that you have uploaded is your favourite?
I think honestly my favorite blogpost to date is titled "Army Girlfriend: Surviving basic training", it was one of my very first posts, and this is a very personal topic of my recent battle on dealing with having my significant other in the army.
  • How long have you been blogging?
I'm very new to blogging, I think this week it will officially have been a month!
  • What's your favourite part of blogging?
To be truly honest, the past month, I have developed a true love for the blogging community itself. Twitter is what exposed me to this wonderful community. Of course I love the writing and self-expression with blogging, but above all, I love being a part of such a supporting community.
  • What is your blogging method? (E.g do you take photos before writing up your post?)
My process with writing up a post consists of sitting down and checking my notes list in my phone of blog topic ideas, I click on "new post", and just write away honestly. I don't "plan" ahead for my topics, they just come straight from what I'm thinking in the moment. Once the post is typed up, I will proofread, and then select the image I'm going to use as my blog post featured image, it is usually a free stock photo which I just edit, sometimes I will take the photos myself on my iPhone 6. Once I got the image set, I just click publish, and then make sure it's shared on all my social media accounts.
  • What advice do you give to new bloggers to stand out in the crowd?
I'm still a new blogger, I'm still learning.. but I think no matter how "new" or "old" you are, you are always learning in this industry. My biggest thing I've learned for new bloggers is to ENGAGE. Engage with fellow bloggers, your audience. Don't be afraid to reach out to bloggers and ask to do guest posts, or for some helpful tips. Just be out there.
  • What are your favourite blog posts to create?
I love personal yet helpful posts. I love pulling something from what I've experienced and turning it into a lesson that my readers can apply into their lives, since that is my blog's purpose, I want everything to be applicable into everyone's lives.

About me:
  • How would you describe yourself in 3 words ?
I hate describing myself in only x amount of words, ha.. I guess I would say emotional/sensitive, motivated, and compassionate.
  • What is your favourite thing to do to relax ?
Go on my phone, check Twitter & Instagram, or talk to my boyfriend. He really makes my days 10x better.
  • Name 3 things you couldn't live without!
My PHONE, for sure. My phone is practically my life line. My boyfriend, he's my rock. Annnndd... Starbucks. :)
  • Do you have any bad habits ?
Umm.. yes. As stated above, Starbucks is unfortunately a very very bad & costly habit of mine.. It is over-expensive and I just can't stop buying coffee from them. I need help.
  • What has been your proudest moment so far?
A very memorable proud moment of mine was when I had the great opportunity to do an internship with my local police department, and they offered me the opportunity to write an article based on my experience which was later published in their magazine. That was great, to see my work published by the police department like that. It solidified my passion for Criminal Justice.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spare time, I'm either... lifting weights in the gym, listening to music, laying in bed, or talking to my boyfriend. I know, not too exciting.
  • What are your future aspirations in life?
To go full force with whatever career field I choose. Right now I'm studying Criminal Justice, but I also have a strong passion for blogging, so I'm not sure where these two things will take me, but I plan to go all the way with it.
  • Name three things that never fail to make you smile
My boyfriend.... I mentioned him too much in here haha, but I have to mention him, some days he's the only thing that makes me smile. Second is probably coming home to my puppy jumping up and down, and lastly... music.
  • Confession time! What is your most embarrassing moment?
A recent unfortunate event that comes to mind is when I was out in Miami living with my boyfriend and his mom. One day I came home late from work, and she decided to throw a big party, it was raining hard outside so when I got to the door I was soaked from the rain, I open the front door and all these people just stare at me standing there drenching wet. Yeah it was pretty embarrassing..

Thanks to Chelsea for helping us out and if you want to be involved in this series or write a guest post for us you can DM the @GRLPOWRCHAT twitter account!

BLOGGER POWR: Hayley K

Sunday, 12 February 2017
Hey guys! We're back with another of our blogging series, meeting some amazing bloggers! Today we're talking to Hayley from imhayley.com (twitter - @imhayleydotcom).

BLOGGING AND ME:

How would you describe your blog in a few words?
A casual space to share and create creative and inspiring ideas, a new way of thinking.

Which blog post that you have uploaded is your favourite?
My favourite currently is "can you outgrow people"

How long have you been blogging?
I actually started blogging a few months ago in September 2016

What's your favourite part of blogging?
Being able to share my ideas with people who share the same mindset, and meeting extraordinary people in the blogging community.

What is your blogging method? (E.g do you take photos before writing up your post?)
I have a little brown book that I keep with me 24/7 that I jot down all of my ideas in, anything that pops into my head so I can look at them later. I personally prefer to write first so I can have a clear image of what I want my photos to look like.

What advice do you give to new bloggers to stand out in the crowd?
I would say just be yourself and stay engaged with your blogging (family) followers. If you are always looking at other people's posts then it will become harder to come up with your own creative content.

What are your favourite blog posts to create?
My favourite page to write on is my "real me" page on my blog, where I say what's on my mind and I just talk to you guys, it is one of my favourite things to do.

ABOUT ME:

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Outgoing, anxious, bubbly

What is your favourite thing to do to relax?
I live very close to a sandy beach so I normally walk there and just watch the waves while reading a book. But I mean, there is nothing wrong with watching Netflix (7 hours straight)

Name 3 things you couldn't live without!
I personally couldn't live without my music, if you know me personally then you would know I ALWAYS have headphones in, my friends, and my dog (she's a black lab)

Do you have any bad habits?
Not any extremely bad habits but I am really bad about glasses in my bedroom, they are all empty I just never take them upstairs.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment was achieving a citizenship award at my school, and what was cool about it was that it was chosen by your class and teachers, I also sing so I was selected to represent my grade at graduation to sing to over 500 people so that was really cool.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to go on random adventures with my friends, I am a very curious person so my friends and I will just explore all the time, and I like to read as well.

What are your future aspirations in life?
To be happy.

Name three things that never fail to make you smile
Bringing up old memories, dancing around my room with friends, and singing.

Confession time! What is your most embarrassing moment?
Okay once I was in my school's gymnasium and had a crush on this really cute guy and he walked up to me one day and asked if I wanted to get lunch with him sometime, I said yes (obviously) but as I turned to leave I ran right into a door and bashed into it so hard my nose started to bleed and I dropped all of my books...ya it's was great. We still joke about it today. And for the romantics out there we still ended up going out for lunch.

Thanks to Hayley for joining in, be sure to have a read of some others in the series.
Love, GRLPOWR

BLOGGER POWR: Caroline Osbel

Monday, 6 February 2017
Hey everyone! It's time for another BLOGGER POWR Interview, and this time we are interviewing the wonderful Caroline from the beautiful blog www.youcancallmecaz.blogspot.co.uk.

I had so much fun interviewing Caroline, and I hope you enjoy reading her answers as much as I did!

Let's get on with the Q&A!

About Blogging

How would you describe your blog in a few words?
An everything and anything blog.

What is your favourite blog post that you have published?
I wrote one last year called 'I like me', which was a really personal post to me. It was basically me finally realising that I like me and I just felt free in a way letting it go and finally loving myself.

How long have you been blogging?
Since June 2014, which is a scary thought as that’s almost three years ago!

 What is your blogging method?
My blogging method is that I open a draft on Blogger when I have an idea, put the title down and then write down key words about it that I want to include and so I don’t forget. The photography normally comes with that as well but I type them down as well in the draft.

What advice would you give to new bloggers to stand out in the crowd?
Write things that interests you/that you are passionate about and to just be yourself – simple as that!

What are your favourite blog posts to create?
I love fashion posts but I am so awkward in front of the camera. I also love writing personal posts, even though they are hard, it’s nice to be open and not feel judged about things.

 About Me
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Such a fangirl.

What is your favourite thing to do to relax and unwind?
Due to the fact that I am a night owl, I love going outside in the pitch black to stare at the moon and the stars in all of their glory. The night sky is a wonderful and peaceful thing.

Name three things you couldn't live without!
Red lipstick, butterscotch sauce and my mother.

Do you have any bad habits?
I tend to just automatically think the worse is going to happen therefore don’t really go out of my comfort zone, which I need to stop doing.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
I graduated last year in a course that I hated doing and that I was struggling with ,but honestly graduation made it so completely worth it! One of the best days of my life.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to go out walking whilst taking photographs but I have recently started learning how to do calligraphy, writing in different fonts, which I am loving!

What are your future aspirations in life?
To be in a job I love, to have my little cottage with a pale green door and pink roses surrounding it - and to be happy!

Name three things that never fail to make you happy
Colin Morgan, the sound of rain and my friends.

Confession time! What is your most embarrassing moment?
I was in town when I saw someone I know so I waving at him and walking towards him. Turns out it wasn’t him at all but a complete stranger who just happened to be very cute, and it was so awkward. Like an hour later I bumped into him again, pretty sure he thought I was following him - oops!

Thank you so much Caroline for your wonderful answers! Make sure to check out her links below...

BLOGGER POWR: Jay L

Sunday, 29 January 2017

We are back with another interview from our new interview series, 'BLOGGER POWR.'
Today, I interviewed the lovely Jay L from blissfulbeautybird.com, enjoy!

SECTION ONE: 'Blogging and me'

1. How would you describe your blog in a few words?

I would describe it as girly, fun and positive.

2. Which blogpost that you have uploaded is your favourite?

I enjoy all the posts I upload, really. But if I had to pick one - it would be my "Confidence, Self Worth + Love" post. It's probably my most personal one but I'm glad I was able to get my feelings out there.

3. How long have you been blogging?

If we're being technical, it would be 3 years this year. But I only really started getting into blogging in 2016. I only put up 5 posts in the year 2015 so for now I'm just going to say I've been properly blogging for a year. ;)

4. What is your favourite part of blogging?

Just the fact that it's my own space really. My own place to let out my creativity. I also really love the blogging friends I've made around the world!

5. What is your blogging method (i.e.. do you take photos before writing your posts?)

Is it bad I don't really have a method?! I can go either or.. sometimes I need the photos done first to inspire me to write. Sometimes the post is all finished and the last thing to do is take photos. All with how I'm feeling at the moment. :)

6. What advice would you give to new bloggers to 'stand out in the crowd'?

This might be a bit cliche and over used but being yourself is a huge thing. You don't have to follow the crowd to love what you're doing or for others to love what you do. Do what makes you happy and you'll always be happy with your blog.

7. What are your favourite blog posts to create?

I love a bit of it all really! I love that my blog is beauty and fashion based but I also really enjoy the odd "Get to Know Me"s or just how I'm feeling.

SECTION TWO: 'About me'

1. How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Girly, Bubbly, Caring

2. What is your favourite thing to do to relax?

I love cuddling up in my warm blanket, maybe a cup of hot coco and some Netflix! You just cannot go wrong :)

3. Name 3 things you wouldn't live without!

Family, friends and phone <---- (sad isn't it? haha)

4. Do you have any bad habits?

This is bad for a beauty blogger but sometimes I'm too comfortable at night and don't take my makeup off. EEEP! I know. It's horrible.

4. What has been your proudest moment so far?

That's a tough one! I'm just proud of the fact that I kept going and haven't given up on myself. I'm constantly proud of myself and the goals I end up achieving whether big or small.

5. What do you like to do in your spare time?

All depends, sometimes I like hanging out with my friends and having a good ol' laugh and other times I really enjoy time by myself - whether that be a night in blogging or going for a walk.

6. What are your future aspirations in life?

I just want to be happy in life and within myself. Isn't that everyone's goal? Just to be happy :)

7. Name three things that never fail to make you smile.

Spinach and artichoke dip (food makes me happy), church, and watching blooper videos on YouTube haha

8. Confession time! What is your most embracing moment?
I've had so many embarrassing moment's that I can't think of one at the moment. I must have tried not to think about it so much I've repressed it from my memory! Haha. All I can think of at the moment was when I was younger I guess I must not have paid much attention to who's car I was getting into and tried to get into cars from strangers when I thought it was my parents. Worse part is each time there were people in them! Other than that, I have tripped and fallen multiple times haha.

BLOGGER POWR : Liv Nezianya

Sunday, 22 January 2017
Here comes the second post of our new series. I talked to lovely Liv. Don't forget to check her out (links are at the end of the post ) !

BLOGGING AND ME

How would you describe your blog in a few words ?

Very simply, my new blog (old one was deleted by wix) is a platform for young adults and females to share their opinions on matters they message me about. Also, to relay global issues in a context that is relatable to younger individuals, to make them more aware of contemporary issues. These may include my own documented experiences whilst travelling.

How long have you been blogging?

Prior to my old website being deleted, I have been blogging since 2014!

What's your favourite part of blogging?

The gradual formation of ideas is my most favourite part of blogging, as you incorporate trips and moments that were significant to you. Then mix that in with an opinion by a subscriber, to relate to a current issue affecting others. For instance, my trip to Dubai, Deira i'd focused on mobility and whether women faced different treatment. E.g being charged differently. Then did the same, once I travelled up to Abu Dhabi and then did a comparison, relating to the representation of women in one part of the middle east.

What advice do you give to new bloggers to stand out in the crowd?

To new bloggers, I would stress the importance of stamina in any topic you pick. As being able to have a set routine, with your daily life activities can occasionally be tiresome! But it's vital to engage both your own minds, with subjects you are passionate about. As well as, keeping in touch with those who watch you. Stay original, and go crazy. This is your own art platform.

ABOUT ME

How would you describe yourself in 3 words ?

To sum me up: frank, random and beautiful.

What is your favourite thing to do to relax ?

One thing to relax...that's difficult! One of the things I enjoy is, lying on my yoga mat with my mac open and listening to j.cole or Lauryn Hill, planning my next trip around my uni term!

Name 3 things you couldn't live without!

To be honest, I can't LIVE without God, Myself and dominoes on speed dial (terrible habit i must say).

Do you have any bad habits ?

One bad habit I have is I zone out so much ,as I will envision something or where I want to be in that moment and I am calculating ways of potentially achieving that with the limited resources I have.
Secondly, I over think (even after watching gossip girl)-
Thirdly, I love red velvet cake- it's so soothing! But I never visit the gym :(

What has been your proudest moment so far?

That's tricky...one of my proudest moments was deciding to have taken a gap year and sacrifice my enjoyment for clarity and further studying and getting to know myself more, rather than for the benefit of others.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Easy! In my spare time, I annoy my friends and bake, quite therapeutic i might add!

What are your future aspirations in life?

In the near distant future, I aim to be a politician, a more established entrepreneur and happy philanthropist!

Name three things that never fail to make you smile.
Three things that never fail to make me smile include the following:
1. My younger brother
2.Sound of the ATM cash machine!
3. Direct messages from supporters on a blog!

Confession time! What is your most embarrassing moment?

My most embarrassing moment was in front of my Crush "X" and the ground was icy. I believed i was invincible, and was trying to be a warrior against the weather by wearing Red vans on ice ;/. As I crossed the road, my entire body slipped-I had fallen in slow motion flat on my back. As i peeked my head up, there he was crossing the road, in amusement at my young failed attempt to be sexy in Vans. Never again.
